What is Java?
Java is a cross-platform software (i.e. works on Mac and PC computers) that allows you to run applications called "applets" that are written in the Java programming language. These applets allow you to play online games, chat with people around the world, calculate your mortgage interest, and view images in 3D. Corporations also use applets for intranet applications and e-business solutions. It works by a browser plug-in in the same way as Adobe Acrobat, Adobe Flash Player, Apple Quicktime and Microsoft Media Player enabling your web browser to do more than just look at web pages by allowing interactivity and functionality. Java is produced by Sun Microsystems, a massive software corporation. Java is NOT malware or spyware - in fact Java is everywhere, even if you don't know it (over 800 million PCs, over 1.2 billion mobile phones and other handheld devices, 1.65 billion smart cards plus set-top boxes, printers, web cams, games, car navigation systems, lottery terminals, medical devices, parking payment stations).

What is Drag and Drop?
Our file uploading system is powered by a Java FTP transfer program that allows your browser to use hidden passwords so allowing your images direct access to our server.

My browser is giving me warning messages I don't understand.
The latest versions of operating systems/computer security software/web browsers are becoming stricter in the connection you have with the outside world due to the prevalence of viruses, malware and spyware. Please be assured that our software is none of these, merely a tool to enable you to communicate directly with our server so that you can upload files. Our software is covered by security certificates - when starting this page you may get a warning from your browser that displays the security certificates. Please click on 'Always' to accept the certification. Some computer configurations/firewalls/security software makes this method of uploading difficult, particularly those using company/university/cyber-cafe computers or for those folk who are completley paranoid about computer safety or don't know how to configure their computers. If you do not allow this software to download then you cannot use this method of file uploading!

I accepted the security questions but now I get error messages
If you accepted your computer questions and allowed the software to download but you get some error message it is quite possible your Java engine is out of date - click here to go to the Sun Microsystems web site to download the latest version. You should now get the Java logo in the white box as the software installs which then changes to our logo.

I got the Drop box working but I can't drag and drop the folder of images.
We have detected some difficulty with some installations of Microsoft Internet Explorer 7 (and have yet to trace the cause) but you can use the 'Browse' button at the bottom of the box to navigate to your folder of images instead.

I am working from an office/university/cyber-cafe/friends computer that won't allow software installation.
In this case there is a good chance that either the computer is 'locked down' and won't allow any type of browser add-ons or indeed you may not be happy allowing software to be downloaded to a computer that is not yours. Here is a link to an alternative uploader that uses conventional HTML methods. It is not as sophisticated and won't allow a folder to be uploaded so either make a zip of your folder or add slots for each of your images instead.

Nope, I still can't get it to work - I'm stumped
For all those who are unable to use this upload facility all is not lost - click on the link below for an alternative upload method:

Or alternatively burn your images on a CD and post it - click here.
